The church of Christ dates back to the days of the New Testament (see Romans 16:16). It was founded by Chirst on the Day of the Pentecost, A.D. 33 (Acts 2), just about a month after His ascension back to heaven.
In the years followed, it rapidily grew to fill Jerusalem, then Judea, Smaria, and finally the whole Roman Empire (Acts 1:8; Colossians 1:23). In America, the first churches of Christ were planted in the late 1700s as a result a movement to "go back to the Bible" and do Bible things in the Bible ways and call Bible things by Bible names (Peter 4:1).
We Believe that Jesus is the Son of God (John 20:30-31), that the Bible is inspired of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), and that Christ will return to take His kingdom home to God (1 Corinthians 15:24).
During the Sunday morning service, the Lord's Supper also is observed by partaking of unleaved bread and fruit of the vine. (Matthew 26:26-29, 1 Corinthians 11:23-29). The service lasts about an hour and concludes with a song and a final prayer. Visitors may sit silently, reflectively, emotionally or filled with praise. Allow the Holy Spirit to move you as He will. 2 Corinthians 3: 16-18
Is a non-denominational, non-traditional, Gospel centered church. Taking a fresh view of Scripture and making everyday applications we focus on how we can live out the message of Christ by uniting all people in the fundamental teachings of love. We strive to understand our purpose as individuals,
family members, a body of believers and lights in society. We are ambassadors who are to bring the truth of Christ first to our own hearts and upon conviction, to the people and the community we serve.
We are passionate about the lord. We have a deep sense of love for mankind and our doors are open to all.
Whether you are a novice in the Scripture, a seasoned saint or someone who is just beginning their spiritual journey with doubts that Christ even existed we welcome you.
Whitney Avenue Chruch of Christ is a safe place for the college student, single person, couple or family to come and seek the answers your heart longs for.
We serve Hamden, North Haven, New Haven, surrounding communities in the New Haven County, CT and anywhere the lord directs us.
